It has been said often that soldiers aren't the only ones to make sacrifices by serving their country. In many cases, their wives and families share in the sacrifice.
In "God Strong: The Military Wife's Spiritual Survival Guide" (Zondervan, softcover, 240 pages, $14.99), author Sara Horn draws from her experience as the wife of a Navy reservist who has spent years listening to and encouraging other military wives.
Horn shares spiritual truths she contends every military wife needs to know. Each chapter includes experiences from other wives in all branches of service, as well as Bible verses and questions she calls "strength builders" and "strength trainers."
Though written with compassion and sensitivity, "God Strong" isn't a pity party for military wives, but rather offers encouragement with honesty and frankness.
"When we allow worry to control our thoughts," she writes, "our emotions and our bodies are sure to be next. Worry and stress can wreak havoc in our hearts and lives."
Rather than living in anxiety, Horn encourages readers to rely on their faith in God.
